In the highlands of the Cordillera, weaving is more than craft — it is memory, identity, and continuity. The Cordillera Textiles Project, or CordiTex, based at the University of the Philippines Baguio, brings together scholars, students, and Indigenous weavers to sustain this living tradition. Through research and collaboration, the project documents textiles that can no longer be produced, reconstructing their intricate designs through digital looms to renew knowledge and practice.

CordiTex takes an interdisciplinary approach that bridges anthropology, mathematics, art, and materials science. The team studies natural dyes, weaving patterns, and iconography, working closely with master weavers from Bontoc, Abra, Kalinga, and beyond. Each reconstructed pattern and recorded story helps ensure that the wisdom woven into these fabrics endures.

For CordiTex, preservation is participation. By returning research to communities and mentoring a new generation of student volunteers, the project weaves the past into the future — reviving local knowledge while reimagining its place in contemporary life.
