Uwes Pinakhawa

Object Name: Uwes Pinakhawa

The Uwes Pinakhawa is a blanket used by the affluent Bontok. It is composed of three horizontal panels. The central panel is called the pakhawa and is adorned with matamata (eyelike) motifs and friezes that form like a star-like figure (bituwon). The side panels called pai-kid feature horizontal strips of red and black adorned with the matamata (eyes) and the tiko-tiko (zigzag pattern) done through the supplementary weft.
